My Love

Caleb and I had our date night Saturday evening. We went to the Logan temple. I remember the day we got married the sealer said to Caleb to keep taking me to the temple and that each time he did, he was telling me he still wanted me forever. Caleb has been insistent that we frequently attend the temple. ;) I love that boy! We went to the temple twice in August, three times in September, once in November, and now once in December. Our goal is to continue to attend at least once a month together. Whenever he reminds me that we should go to the temple, i just remember our wedding day and what Caleb was told. I love him so much.
I never could have imagined loving someone as much as I do him. I know that if my little beehive self could have seen the life I have now with my sweetheart, I would have thought it was heaven! I married the best man I know and the man I know the most! Every day his character strengthens mine. He is a hard worker. He doesn't quit when he's tired. He quits when he is done. He is a quiet example to me of what I should be doing. He never talks down to me when reminding me or encouraging me to do something. He is very intelligent and could easily make others or myself feel stupid for not knowing all the things he knows or not being good at all the things he is good at... but he doesn't. One of the very first things I loved about Caleb was how he explained things to me. I am a very inquisitive person. Usually, when someone is talking, if they mention something I am unfamiliar with I will ask them what they mean or what is that they are talking about. I have been the center of many public humiliations (ask my sophomore girls choir class). When I ask Caleb, he doesn't laugh at me, he doesn't ask "you didn't know that?!" He just kindly explains. I watch him with children and he is the same way. Our land lord has 4 beautiful children. The younger three come downstairs and play with Caleb and I a lot. I don't think he realizes how much I watch him. I watched him as he taught them how to play a few of the games we have. He didn't just let them win on purpose or let mistakes go, but he was fun, kind, and loving about teaching them. Eventually, the kids got good enough that they could win. I look up to him. I never remember playing with my dad any game. I never remember him teaching me or talking to me the way Caleb did with those children.
I have overwhelming gratitude for Caleb's mom and dad. I know they are in large part the reason Caleb is the honest, upright, kind, man that he is. I will forever honor them as the wonderful parents they were."A man who treats his woman like a princess, is proof he was raised by a queen" LOVE THAT QUOTE. That is so him.

Harsh lessons to learn

I've decided that there are many of life's truths which are pretty harsh.
Yet, whether I ignore these facts or not, will not change that they exist.
Occasionally, I will learn a lesson that is VERY difficult for me to accept. (the not wanted to accept it makes it even more difficult to learn.) But, farther down the road, after accepting it, I realize that it was not so harsh after all. It was a blessing and a tender mercy. Then I tell myself, "Why do I always let Satan make me think that truths are sad, when really they are wonderful?"
Anyway, I thought I'd share a some of those things that I have realized.  (some of them are obvious and you hear them all the time... but like I said, I'm a slow learner sometimes!)
  • Generally, God will not answer your prayer by taking you out of your own personal dark abyss. He will make you stronger so that you can endure it well.
  • We get two Dad's- Heavenly Father and our Earthly Father. It is a BONUS if the later is a great dad. Otherwise, oh well. The former is the best Dad anyone could ever have anyway.
  • Sometimes...
-People you hope and pray will be who you think they are WILL disappoint you.
-Promises others make to you WILL be broken
-"friends"  will do things that hurt you, "family" will too!
"All these things shall give thee experience and be for thy good" Doctrine and Covenants 122:7
These disappointing experiences have made things so much sweeter when someone has not disappointed me, kept a promise they made, or are a TRUE friend.
  • Being silent while something wrong is happening does NOT make that thing right. But, it does make you weak and definitely doesn't do any favors for those you are scared of offending.
  • NOT EVERYONE WILL LIKE YOU. It is okay. Trying to please everyone will not get you very far. Someone will always hate you. Its better to be hated for doing good than loved for doing evil. Christ was perfect and yet hated by many. Join His club, be on His team, He will never leave you.
  • Being positive, kind, and honest will rarely ever be popular. Miserable people will hate you for trying to have any of those qualities. They will belittle you, gossip about you, and envy you. Misery loves company. You can join them or be loyal to the royal within. The choice will always be yours.
  • Heavenly Father will let the righteous lose some battles, but they will win the war. It is essential that some battles are lost. That is where the valiant are set apart and we are forced to choose what is right and not what is easy.
  • Not going to Heavenly Father about your personal concerns and worries because of fear your questions and prayers won't be answered is summed up in this quote: "We miss 100% of the shots we never take." This scripture says this quote very well also -  Therefore, ask and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you; for he tht asketh receiveth; and unto him that knocketh, it shall be opened. 3 Nephi 27:29
I know I still have so much to learn, and I'm sure a few of you reading this know what I mean now about being a slow learner. ;) I'm just grateful for my Heavenly Father, My Savior, and my husband. I feel so bad for people who do not know God and have a personal relationship with Him. He is the most loving, forgiving, happy, and funny person that anyone could ever know. He does more things with my life than I ever could on my own.

I have much to be Thankful for

I love this time of year. Everyone counting their blessings... naming them one-by-one.
I have quite a lot to be thankful for. I would like to share that list.
Heavenly Father's constant love. Sometimes I want to be the best person, but I fall short. I can feel Heavenly Father's love. I can't describe it. It's the best feeling in the world. I have no idea why I deserve it, but I do know that I am a daughter of a very loving Father in Heaven. For that I am grateful.
The Savior's peace. Lately I have really needed this. I'm a baby. When I hear about some hardship someone is experiencing, it breaks my heart. It tears me apart when I hear someone has been killed. I couldn't sleep when I knew someone is missing their loved one. I was born with this quality. I believe I have the gift to Mourn. I did not always think this was a gift. I have been criticized for it. I have thought that it was weak... but its not. It requires me to constantly be turning to the Lord for peace and comfort. The news is disturbing. It breaks my heart. I lose trust in people. I feel fear. But when I pray for peace, it comes. I don't know how, but it does. I can never be grateful enough for that peace. John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

My dear, cute, adorable husband. I am the luckiest woman on Earth. I think I have never met a better person. Not only is he amazing, but he makes me feel like I am too. He is everything I lack. He is my reason and my rock. Everyday I think, "I have no Idea how I got him to marry me, but whatever I did, I'm sure glad I did it!". I have never seen a husband as good as mine. His 1st priority is my happiness. He makes me want to be the person he thinks I already am. I'm so blessed. I thank Heavenly Father for Him every day.

My hard working mother. Ever since I was born I have watched this lady do tremendous hard work to give her children the best things. I sat at her feet for family night and learned from her testimony. I watched her wear worn out old clothes so that her little girls could have nice things to wear. I watched her as she would embarrass herself to cheer for her children and do the right thing when it was not popular. My mom's deepest desires are for her children to be happy. She is a great lady. I love and respect her. I definitely did not always honor her like I should have. I regret that, but I realize now what she did and how difficult it was.

My exemplary in laws. I have the best in-laws in the world. They are so good to me. They are the most Christlike group of people. They emphasize the good in others and forget the bad. They forgive faster than any people I know. They are strong and immovable. They are the reason my husband is so good. Caleb's parents, sisters, brothers in law, little brother, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, have done so much to make me feel welcomed and loved. They live the gospel and are dedicated to being disciples of Christ. I'm so blessed to get to be apart of that.

My beautiful sisters. I have 12 sisters. Yes, 12! And I love every last one of them. We have seen each other through really difficult things. Our lives have not been perfect. We have watched each other grieve death, confront our fears, heal from abuse, fall, rise, win, and lose. My sisters will always know apart of me that no one else ever will. They will also have a special place in my heart. Not one of them can be replaced. 5 of them I don't get to see often, but I love them the same, and always will. Breann, Charlie, Hayley, Jacklyn, Jessica, Kayla, Kelsey, Megan, Payten, Rachel, Raygen, and Taylor

My health. I'm very healthy and strong. I almost can do any physical task I decide to do. I'm so blessed with this and I am truly grateful.

Grandma Bette :D
My dear grandmothers. Oh I don't even want to know where or what I'd be without these ladies. They are my second mothers. They have been extremely influential in my life. They are both strong Christians and have taught me about Jesus and His atoning love.  This is Grandma Hudson -->

Men in my Family. My step dad Bryan, my older Brother Cody, my Grandpa Hudson, my Uncle Brady, my Grandpa Thayne, and my grandpa's who have passed away - Grandpa Ivins and Grandpa Thompson. I love you all and am grateful for your goodness and hard work.

StillBorn. Still Fresh. Still Hard.

Something I've learned about things we experience in families: We all experience the same thing SO different!
This is my story.
2010 was a year of losses... Tremendous losses. It was also a year of tremendous spiritual growth for me.
My 16 year old sister, Jacklyn, became pregnant in the spring of 2010

During her pregnancy we lost my brother Cody to suicide.
A year ago this week my family and I were getting ready to welcome a new member of our family.
Jacklyn struggled to decide what to do during her pregnancy. Being so young she had a lot of responsibility she would have to assume for her baby.
I remember sitting and talking with her during this decision-making time. I'll be honest: I was deeply hoping she would choose adoption.  See, my mom was a single parent for a while and I feel like I helped raise my little sisters. Rachel, Jacklyn, and Jessica aren't just my little sisters. I feel like they're my daughters, in a way. I have a love for them that I can't explain.
Jacklyn's future was uncertain. I was fearful for her although she did not seem afraid. I wondered why that was. Did she not know how scary and difficult the real world is?
I told her, "I want you to pray and truly think about what Heavenly Father would want you to do for your baby. If you do that, I will support you 100% in whatever you choose."
Weeks later I asked Jacklyn what she had decided. She said, "I'm keeping her."
My heart dropped. I remembered my promise and decided to keep my end of the deal.
We had her shower on November 16.
I looked at her the night of the shower and marveled at how much she had grown. I thought about how, just months before, in the summer, I had called her while I was working at EFY. She had gotten a full time job and was working hard all summer to save money for her baby.
I remember hanging up the phone and crying. She was brave and fearless. She was taking responsibility for her actions. (The big sister in me couldn't help but get emotional)
The day after the shower, in the freezing cold, she bundled up and walked a mile or so to Walmart. When my Mom asked her what she was doing she said, "Getting some stuff for Brynlee that I didn't get at the shower." My mom said, "With what money?" Jacklyn had saved over $1,000 to help pay for her baby girl.
The weekend came and Saturday night I was on a date. I started getting phone calls and texts. Jacklyn was in labor and they were taking her to the hospital. I grew excited. My mom asked if I would run out to her house and stay with the foster kids while my mom went to meet Jacklyn at the hospital. I left my date early and began driving to my mom's. I was praying in my car that Jacklyn and the Baby would be okay...
Suddenly my phone rang. It was Bryan (my step dad) He said, "The baby's head..." then the phone dropped the call.
My heart sank. I frantically called him back. Then I realized what he had said... "The baby is dead."
I finally got a hold of him and my fears were confirmed.
When I got to my mom's my Aunt Shawna came over to be with the kids while I went to the hospital. I was so hysterical I had to call my aunt Tracie to come with me.
I will never forget the look on my sisters face when I entered her hospital room. She was looking at the ceiling. Tears were streaming down her face, into her hair. Her worst nightmare had come to pass.
It is the worst feeling in the world to hold someone you love in your arms and know that NOTHING you say will take away their pain.
During Jacklyn and Jessica's life they have often said to me, "YOU DON'T KNOW HOW IT IS TO BE..." I have always been able to reply, "YES I DO." I was once 16. I have been fatherless. I have been abused. I have been hurt and disappointed.
This time was different. I looked Jacklyn in the eyes and said, "I don't know how you feel, but I'm sorry"
I remember her holding her stomach and saying, "I just want to hear her cry, just once."
Never will I take for granted the gift to hear my own child cry.

The next evening I went with my mom to pick Jacklyn up from the hospital. I sobbed before but told myself that I was going to be strong this time.
When I got there my aunt Shawna, uncle Brady, and several other relatives were visiting her. The spirit of the room was peaceful and comforting.
I remember they all left to let Jacklyn get dressed and ready to go home. I shut the hospital door behind them and Jacklyn got up from her hospital bed, while my mom picked up things in the room.
I grabbed Jacklyn's bag and began unzipping it. I could see Jacklyn looking at me when all the sudden Brynlee's clothes fell out of the bag. They were the clothes Jacklyn was going to take Brynlee home in.
Jacklyn fell back on the bed in tears. My heart sank. All I could say is, "I'm so sorry. I didn't know." My mom held her as I stepped into the hall. I couldn't control my sobs. A poor nurse kindly asked if I needed a tissue. Finally, I composed myself and went back in. We finished getting Jacklyn's things and I went to get the car.We loaded her in while another mom and dad were taking their baby home.
We had 4 people in the car, but that was the loneliest drive I've ever had. My car felt empty. Everything felt so wrong. So sad. So unfair.
I'm not going to lie. I cried my eyes out typing this. I still don't know "Why". A year ago I took comfort in the thought that someday we'll know why. All I know is that ...“No pain that we suffer, no trial that we experience is wasted. … All that we suffer and all that we endure, especially when we endure it patiently, builds up our characters, purifies our hearts, expands our souls, and makes us more tender and charitable. … It is through sorrow and suffering, toil and tribulation, that we gain the education that we come here to acquire.” (Elder Orson F. Whitney said that) I have been strengthened by this experience. I see things so differently. My eyes have been opened to a whole new view of how precious life is. I am better because of Brynlee. He sweet spirit is felt at times and I know that she had a purpose. Soon after everything happened I wondered, "what was the point in creating her body if she wasn't going to use it?" Then the thought came, "This life is not the only time we use our bodies. This is act 2 of a three part play."
Thanks Brynlee for reminding me to love deeper, laugh harder, forgive easier, and live better.
love, Aunt Paige
